The First Cathedral Mosque of Ufa
Mosques and Places of Worship
About
Construction began in 1827 on the initiative of Gabdesallam Gabdrahimov (1765-1840), the second mufti of the Orenburg Spiritual Muslim Assembly. The first permanent mosque in the city of Ufa was built in 1830 on Frolovskaya Street (later renamed Tukaeva Street). In 1887, a madrasa was opened. Until 1920, the building was the main mosque in Russia. From 1960 to 1992, it was the only functioning mosque in the city. The local imam Chikhangir Abizgildin was arrested and executed by the NKVD in 1937.
