Middle East Technical University Alumni (ODTÜ Mezunlar Derneği)

About

Since its establishment, the association aimed to strengthen the social, cultural, and professional ties among alumni, and over time became an important actor defending the democratic and autonomous structure of universities and the principles and values of METU. The METU Alumni Association served not only as a social meeting place but also as a platform supporting the professional, cultural, and intellectual interaction of alumni. METU's core values such as scientific thinking, critical approach, and social responsibility guided the association's activities. The most important physical and social milestone in the association's history is the realization of the Vişnelik Facilities. After the 1980s, there was a need for a modern space where alumni could come together, generate ideas, and renew their sense of belonging; this vision became a reality with the opening of the Vişnelik facilities in 1999 with the support of our university. Over time, Vişnelik became not just a local venue but a “micro-campus” that directed Ankara's intellectual life, hosting events from concerts to panels, festivals to academic discussions. Over time, the association opened branches in different cities of Turkey. Later, these branches became autonomous associations. With the opening of new associations both domestically and abroad, a wide alumni network was formed alongside the METU alumni associations. This widespread structure reinforced not only the ties based on university years but also a lifelong sense of belonging. The association also continued to contribute to the university community with scholarship, mentorship, and guidance programs for METU students.
