Iske Tash Mosque
Mosques and Places of Worship
About
The mosque was closed according to the decision of the Central Executive Committee of the republican VKP(b) of the Tatar ASSR in the late 1930s. During the Soviet era, the mosque was used as a school and then as a warehouse, when a new large school building was built right next to it, blocking the view of the mosque. In 1994, the mosque was returned to the believers and restored in 2021–2024[1]. The mosque in 2006 The conditional predecessor of the Iske-Tash mosque can be considered the second wooden Novoslobodskaya mosque, which was located on the site of the house at 7 Mekhovshchikov Street (a three-minute walk from the location of the modern Iske-Tash mosque). This wooden mosque is first recorded in the post-Pugachev plan of Kazan's redevelopment of 1782, compiled by architect Vas. Kaftyrev. After the construction of the stone Iske-Tash mosque, this wooden mosque continued to function for the needs of the mahalla for some time and disappeared from maps starting from the 1830s. Thus, for the local mahalla (community), Iske-Tash is the successor of the lost second wooden Novoslobodskaya mosque.
