About

Turkey Maritime Bank was a state bank founded in 1938 to finance the then-developing Turkish maritime sector. In 1992, when the government decided to consolidate the main state banks, its legal entity was terminated, and it was merged with Emlak Bank. In 1997, the banking license was reissued in the name of DenizBank and put up for sale with three branches. Zorlu Holding acquired the license from the Privatization Administration for 70 million dollars and started its operations in September of the same year. As part of the launched development program under the new corporate identity, new branches were opened. Growth was supported by acquiring branches of other banks, one of which was Tarişbank in 2002. During this process, DenizBank entered the international arena by opening or buying banks in Austria, Russia, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Additionally, DenizBank added services such as investment banking, factoring, leasing, etc., creating the "DenizBank Financial Services Group" and securing added value for itself, as well as supporting its growth. Today, DenizBank, together with 13 group companies, employs more than 10,000 people. In 2014, its profit amounted to 939 million ₺. On May 22, 2018, the bank was acquired by Emirates NBD for 3.2 billion dollars (14.6 billion Turkish lira).
