About

Beko was founded in 1955 by Koç Holding founder Vehbi Koç and Bejerano. The reason for this was Koç's desire to invest in a tomato and canning factory, and for this, he decided to partner with Bejerano, who had experience in this field. The company name was registered as Beko, which is a combination of the first two letters of the surnames Bejerano and Koç. In 1948, again in partnership with Koç, the company General Elektrik changed its name to Beko Ticaret A.Ş. to organize the sales and distribution of light bulbs. Thus, a distribution system was created for the first time in Anatolia. Koç also used this system to distribute products of the Arçelik brand, founded in the same year. In 1977, Beko Ticaret transferred the distribution rights of Arçelik to the company Atılım. Since 1983, activities under the Beko brand began in the household appliances sector in Turkey. Later, the company became the first Turkish company to make sales abroad under its own brand. In 2000, as a result of the reorganization of Koç Holding Durable Consumer Group, Beko left Beko Ticaret A.Ş. and, together with the Arçelik brand, joined Arçelik A.Ş. In 2004, the German electronics brand Grundig was acquired by Beko and Alba. In 2007, Beko bought the entire Grundig company from Alba and in 2009 fully merged with Arçelik A.Ş. In 2017, entering into a partnership with Voltas, a subsidiary of Tata Group, Beko entered the Indian market under the brand "Voltas Beko" in the household appliances sector. Beko has 45 factories in 13 countries and partners in 57 countries.
