About
The organization was originally established in 1953 as the “Turkish-American Club.” Its primary purpose was to foster a better understanding of Turkey and the Turkish people in the United States and to provide opportunities for Turkish Americans to come together and celebrate special occasions such as holidays. After strong periods marked by numerous activities, it experienced relatively quiet times. In 1985, the association's bylaws were revised to allow it to become a tax-exempt, non-profit organization. With tax-exempt status, all donations made to the organization are tax-deductible. Its name was changed to the Association of Turkish Americans of Southern California. The acronym ATASC aligns with the philosophy of its members: a group committed to the teachings of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, who is also referred to as ATA, meaning "father." Today, ATASC continues to provide invaluable service to the Turkish-American community. From social events to cultural activities, charitable work, and community building, ATASC plays an integral role in bringing the Turkish-American community together and helping others recognize this people with a rich culture.
